Penrith swimmers kept busy
06 Jul 2012
PENRITH Swimming Club members travelled north or south in the county recently to take part in the sprint and diddy league galas organised by the Cumbria ASA.
The diddy league is for nine to 11-year-olds and is held annually over three rounds in April, May and June.
It is an entry level team competition in which Penrith Swimming Club competes with other Cumbrian swimming clubs over 44 events.
It consists of sprint races, with the majority of the events being relays, where each leg is 25 metres, and some individual 50-metre events.
Penrith Swimming Club arranged for a coach to take the youngsters to Kendal for each round and over the duration of the league more than 30 members took part, many of whom were experiencing a swimming gala for the first time.
The sprint league took place in Carlisle over a similar format, but over longer distances for those aged 12 and over.
Thanks went to swimming club coaches, timers, officials and parents who enabled so many members to take part in these events, and congratulations went to all the youngsters who competed.
