A SQUAD of nine to 11-years-olds from Penrith Swimming Club took part in the Diddy League galas organised by the Cumbria Amateur Swimming Association.

The Diddy League is an annual entry level team competition, held over three rounds in April, May and June in which Penrith members aged nine to 11 compete against other clubs. It consists of 44 sprint races with the majority of the events being relays. Each leg is 25 metres and there are some individual 50m events.

Penrith Swimming Club arranged for all the youngsters to travel by coach to Kendal for rounds one and two and then to Workington for the third competition. Over the three league rounds, more than 30 members took part. Many of them were experiencing a competitive swimming gala away from Penrith for the first time.

Thanks were given to the swimming club coaches, timers, officials and parents who enabled so many members to take part in these events.

Three Penrith club members, Jake Fabi, Caitlin Poulson and Kes Fountain, travelled to Darwen, Lancashire, to attend the Preston “summer spectacular”. There was a great performance from Jake, who won won medals in eight out of his nine races, with Caitlin and Kes also winning medals.
