A SUBSTANTIAL number of swimmers represented the Penrith club at the annual Griffin gala, held at Copeland.

They all acquitted themselves well, with a number recording personal best times which is indicative of the keenness and determination of both swimmers and coaches.

The highlight from the Penrith club’s point of view was the performance of 10-year-old Allan Armstrong who won two events, the 25 metres and 50m backstroke, as well as being placed in the first three in a number of other events.

Others who received awards for being placed in the first seven in their respective events were: Naomi Smith (aged 12), 50m breaststroke, 25m backstroke and 25m breaststroke; Jason Heath (12), 50m breaststroke, 25m freestyle and 25m breaststroke; Becky Furness (10), 25m breaststroke; Jake Carruthers (10), 25m breaststroke; Rebecca Halliwell (11), 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke; and Daniel White (11), 50m breaststroke.
